Skincare for Dry Skin

I have oily skin, which means I am no use when it comes to trying out/recommending products for dry skin. I know what types of products someone with dry skin should be using but I wouldn't actually know myself if they worked.
So I had to bring in a guinea pig- my sister, Megan.
I thought it would be helpful to show you her routine and what she uses and be able to talk about products that she has thoroughly tried, tested and love. So here is what she uses in her routine..

Morning

Megan starts off my using the Soap and Glory Peaches and Clean cream cleanser.
She likes this as it doesn't make her skin feel tight or even drier. It's a nice light consistency yet still manages to give her the moisture her skin needs.

She then moves on to her moisturiser which is the Bioderma Ultra Soothing Cream from the Atoderm line (for dry skins). When I asked her what she liked about this all she said was "I loooove that stuff!" And labeled it "Holy grail" material.
She said it makes her skin look glowy and dewy and is easily abosrbed into the skin. It's also really nourishing without feeling heavy.
She also said she doesn't feel the need to reapply it throughout the day as her skin feels nourished and comfortable all day long. This is a problem she has had in the past with other products, her skin still ended up feeling dry.

She also uses the Soap and Glory Puffy Eye Attack eye cream. She says this is just a basic, easy eye cream that hydrates and makes her eye makeup go on smoother.

Night

At night she removes her makeup with the same Soap and Glory Peaches and Clean cleanser, she uses a muslin cloth with this as she finds it gives a gentle but effective exfoliation.
"It removes makeup really well and you only need one pump to do your whole face." She also said it works better than some oil cleansers too, as it removes all traces of mascara and eyeliner, something she likes as she wears a lot of eye makeup.

Megan then uses the REN No.1 Purity Balm to go in for a second cleanse. I passed this on to her after it didn't work so well for me.

She said she saw a noticeable difference when she started using this. It reduced redness, irritation and got rid of bumps and blemishes. She also said it's super nourishing without being heavy or greasy on her skin.

Megan has also started using the Pixi Glow Tonic. She said she loves this and saw a huge difference in only a few uses. She saw a noticeable reduction in the bumps she gets around the centre of her face. Her skin felt so much smoother and looked more even. She is now regularly stealing this from my beauty stash!

For her moisturiser, she uses a couple different things.
She will either use her beloved Bioderma or the Body Shop's Vitamin E Serum in Oil.
She uses the oil when she is having a "bad skin day" as she finds it just helps to clear everything up. She said it really calms and soothes her skin, as well as reducing redness and irritation.
She loves the light consistency and said that she likes how in the morning there isn't any oil left over and her skin looks fresh and healthy.

Megan also uses self tanner on her face. Her favourite is the Clarins Liquid Bronze Self Tanner. Again all she could say at first was "Amazing!"
She loves using this with the Bioderma moisturiser, she says it gives the most amazing glowy, bronze look to the skin. It's a super thin, liquid consitency that sinks in to the skin immediately.
Once gives a gorgeous sun kissed glow and anything after that just builds up a natural looking colour to the skin. She also said it doesn't have a smell to it, so you don't end up smelling of biscuits.

So there you have it! A basic, tried and tested skin care routine for dry skin types. I hope this was helpful and gave some of you some ideas on what products to use that could work for you.

Thanks for reading!

  1. Very inspirational to hear about someone pursuing their dream and becoming successful instead of following the traditional path.
